End of Summer Vacation and Land Keep Pictures

How’s your summer going so far? Getting in all the plans you made when school was letting out or are you trying to shove in everything last minute? A little of both at the Savage household. I spent most of June finishing Land Keep and July was edits and work on a couple of other projects. But we’ve managed to squeeze in quite a bit of play anyway. Nothing like not being able to use the kitchen table for three days because you, your wife and your two sons still at home are in the middle of a long-running RPG game. We also introduced our youngest to LOTR with an all day marathon. Next week we squeeze in a couple of days of camping at a gorgeous 10,000 foot elevation campground called Mirror Lake, and a day at Lagoon (the local amusement park, not, you know, a muddy bog or something.) Should be a great way to go out, since school starts for our kids the week after next.

So what’s happening with Farworld? Glad you asked. Because it just so happens I have pictures! These are the four inside illustrations. And here’s an extra bonus. Tell me which one you like best and why, and I’ll pick two readers to receive signed bound manuscripts. I’ll choose from the responses on Tuesday morning when I hopefully post the final cover artwork.
Part 1 -- Keepers of the Balance &
their "pets."

Part 2 -- Marcus and Kyja reading

Part 3--Marcus and Kyja hitting the open road

Part 4--The statue of Tankum in front
of Terra ne Staric

Whoa! These are exceedingly cool pictures, Jeff!!!

Love the pics. It is hard to choose a favorite but I think #3 is it.

I like the third one the best because it looks like an actual black and white photograph. One of the earliest photographers did pictures that looked a lot like that open road.

I prefer 4, always like the castle scenes. With the weather effects and statue it looks very impressive and easy to imagine being there.

Wow, it's hard to beleive they are drawings. Very nice. I like #4 the best--I'm a sucker for rain

I love the pictures. It's hard to choose my favorite. I really like the symbolism in #2. I also really like #4. It's just cool looking. #1 kind of creeps me out, big bugs...eww. And I am with Bluestocking about #3.

Jeff, I love them all, too, but #4 is my favorite as well. I'm so excited for you and excited to read your new book:-)

I don't know why the last half of my comment was chopped but I like the first one best. I know I'm the minority but them's my votes anyway :)

I think # 2 looks the coolest because its looks very mistical.

so thats what they look like? hmmmm

Great pictures. I think my favourite has to be #4.

My favorite is #1. I love the "pets" and that dude riding a horse looks pretty wicked. ;)

All three of them are so...unearthly. If, however, I had to pick a favorite it would be, without a doubt, the first. It's remarkable how the artist brings the different shades of the lights and the darks so that it brings the shadows to life and enhances the sinister tone of the drawing. I also love the perspective from which the artist drew. You feel as if you’re looking up at the scowling rider and angry horse, holding your breath and waiting to see what he'll do. The first one is by far the best.

I love the fourth one! That is definitely my favorite. It's so intense and stunning! Pictures like that always manage to capture my imagination.

wow great pictures!! That certainly makes me want the book SOONER! lol..

I like them all but maybe #1. Because I'm really curious to know what it's really all about!

I love the second one the most because of the sense of wonder and imagination it carries with it.

Number four is a close second-- great castle pic, and when you add the statues at that angle, the rain, and the lightning, it makes it so interesting!

Stephanie Humphreys said...

I love #2. It makes me wonder what they are up to and where they could possibly be.

I like number 4 the best! The stormy night, the rain, and the eerie statues make it seem like a big thing is about to happen. The climax maybe?

Great pictures!

gotta a say I love the first one. Horses are just cool, and those little critters creeping out of the grass don't look too friendly.

Those are really cool pics. I'm excited to read Land Keep and I've already reserved my copy.

Wow! I loved The first two! Awesome!

Hi! I think that I prefer #4 because it really brings out the moood, it's perfect! I find that I wanted to be able to see the person, Number One was cool too. But 2 and 3 didn't really bring it out. although number three looked REALLY realistic!!!

Dogluvers said...

thought Number One is cool but I think that's because I'm a real animal person and whoever illustrated it, did well on showing pure terror on the horse's face, the bugs in the background were cool! Number two seemed interesting, not my favorite though, and Number three to me seemed really realistic but not yet my favorite...Number Four was my favorite because it really brought out a mood to me, it's hard to explain but I thought it looked perfect, with the rain and the statues, and Terra ne Staric looked fabulous in the background!

I like the first picture of the Keepers of Balance and their 'pets' because it gives you an idea of what the 'mysterious' keepers of balance look like. I also think the spidery 'pets' are kool looking. It's beautifully drawn too. Does this mean that there are going to be Keepers of Balance in the second book?

Well, I also love the second picture of Marcus and Kyja on the weird downward misty loopy thing. It gives me a clue to what the geography will look like and it's mystifying. ON the circle lily pad things, arn't those signs the Earth sign? I think so, but I dont have the book right now to check.

Who is the illustrator? They are AWESOMEBLOODYTASTIC! (my own made-up word...) I give them two thumbs up for the illustrations. =D

Wow, Brandon is amazing! Hard to choose. Everytime I would go back to look at a picture as I was trying to narrow it down, I saw something that I had not seen before! I love that. I love #4 because it makes me think of my two boys in Iraq. But I love the symbols on the flowers of #2. They are all amazing and wonderful.

I'll settle the fight between Brandi and Ethan about who gets to read it first and read it first myself!

Wow, everybody. Thanks for the great comments. I like how there is no concensus. I like all of them for different reasons. I'll wait till I pick the winners tomorrow, then give you feedback on what each of the pics are. (Without giving too much away! :) )

Personally, I like the fourth the best. I wanted a glimpse of what you generally pictured Terra ne Staric as, and the statues are glorious! The drama in it is great, with the pouring rain and the high tower. I believe the image will (and already does) build tension for the book. Naturally, this book will be on a larger scale, and I'm almost positive that there will be a battle at Terra ne Staric. The statues also cast an eerie effect, as if you are unsure whether all of them are really statues, or if it is a trap. This also brings the memory of Tankum back, who, if I'm not mistaken, could end up as one of Farworld's greatest heroes, having given up his life to save the child of the prophecy (Or am I mixing up names?).

Part 3: hitting the open road.

What a great image. Just looking at it makes me want to hit the road and find a land of enchantment all my own.

My husband said on Sunday that he'd like to go camping at Mirror Lake sometime soon. I've never been myself, but I hope you have a perfectly enchanting trip and feed your muse on the great outdoors.

Awesome i hope that everyone had fun during this contest!!!! i know i did :) :)

If your lookin for opinions still, I like the second one the best because it looks just like a different world- it takes you to a different place then your used too. And with Farworld being Farworld, that illustration just captures my attention and makes me use my immagination to create a world with wierd things such as the illustration.

By the way, Brandon is an amazing artist. I was stunned when I saw the pictures in the first book, and now this book will have amazing pictures!
Thanks for sharing!

They look amazing! The second one really amps up the fantasy feel, and the fourth one is, of course, incredible.

Jeff - I love the artwork! I really like the "pets"! :) The cover of the new book is great - a little scary looking and very different from Water Keep, but looks good. Excellent artist! I can't wait for it to come out!!!
